Well done Sir David for an honour so richly deserved.
David Amess said in a statement today he wished to congratulate all those who had been recognised for their public service in today’s New Year’s honours list.
“I have no doubt at all that there are many others who deserve honours and recognition for the selfless work that they do on behalf of others. As far as my own situation is concerned, for me personally, for my family, for my one hundred and two year old mother, for my friends, it is wonderful news which I am excited about and extremely happy. I would like to thank all those people who have supported me from my very earliest days in politics, in the Sixties when I was in the London Borough of Newham. I particularly want to thank all those people who supported me in three elections in Basildon, and four elections in Southend West. I owe them all a great debt of gratitude for the confidence which they have shown in me. People go into politics wanting to make a real difference to people’s lives, to help and improve people’s situations. That is what I have always tried to do, and intend to continue doing. I have always been a staunch Monarchist, so I am very much looking forward to the Investiture ceremony.”
