Next year Southend is the Alternative City of Culture and plans for the year’s celebrations are well advanced. Any local resident would be most welcome if they wanted to get involved.
The year will start with a launch on New Year’s Day at the end of the pier and in the Forum. Part of the programme will be ticketed and the tickets will be available to purchase shortly. There will also be an official launch at the House of Commons. Each month there will be a particular theme including fashion, food, photography, music and dance, history and architecture etc. We now have an active website http://www.southendculture.com.
People may not always think it but we have so much fine culture in the town that should be shown off to a wider audience. Wonderful singers, choirs, dancers, buildings, painters, photographers, sculptors, designers and chefs. I very much hope that we will be able to attract tourists to our town, not only to enjoy the various performances and exhibitions, but to spend money in the town. If you have an interest in any cultural activity please do contact me in Westminster on 020 7219 3452 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org<mailto:email@example.com>.
