SOUTHEND - ALTERNATIVE CITY OF CULTURE 2017

Next year Southend is the Alternative City of Culture and plans for the year’s celebrations are well advanced. Any local resident would be most welcome if they wanted to get involved.

THE POPPIES ARE COMING TO SOUTHEND

A poignant piece of art to remember those who perished in the First World War is coming to Southend-on-sea.

It will be touring the UK and will be installed at Barge Pier, in Gunners Park from April 12 to June 25 next year.

NEW BUSES FOR SOUTHEND

NEW Chalkwell Councillor Nigel Folkard at the Bus Depot in Southend.

This was at the launch of a fleet of 18 modern double-decker buses, that will be operating in Southend area as part of a £3.8millioninvestment in the service.

Cllr Helen Boyd (Blenheim Park Ward) has been working with Make Southend Sparkle (Council initiative) to help clear up Blenheim Park. Some volunteers have been recruited to do an initial 'litter pick' and a regular Park Clearing group is being setup..

RUBBISH COLLECTIONS BACK ON TRACK AFTER SUMMER CRISIS

With rubbish piling up in the streets and complaints from residents pouring in, the Council’s new Conservative administration had to take swift action. They ordered Veolia to bring in extra operatives and vehicles until the backlog of uncollected rubbish was cleared.

Ongoing Severe Pothole problems

Due to the adverse weather over the past year, Council Officers are now regularly inspecting all the roads to assess their condition, and to identify where any  potential repairs are needed to prevent further damage.
